There are some people who fall in love with Chinese culture and language - and it is their dream to come to China to experience it for themselves. I was not one of those people
When I first arrived to the Beijing airport in the summer of 2015, I remember an intense feeling of dread coming over me, as I wasn't able to understand any of the characters I saw. The feeling was exacerbated a few hours later at the Tsinghua University cafeteria, when I realized that I was going to have to eat all of my food with chopsticks! (Moreover, I broke my vegan diet, when I discovered that my tofu dish had little slices of pork in it!)
Despite this rocky start, I soon found China to be an exciting place; every day I would wake up with no idea of what sort of adventures might transpire. The purpose of this blog is to write about these adventures, my life experiences in China, and my continued research on US-China relations.
